Value Care mental health support services

Mental health programs are available to build bridges back into the community.

  • Personal Help and Mentoring Program
    Mental health support for people recovering from mental illness to develop skills and confidence as well as access services and participate in their community.
  • 4Mates Assisting people with mental health issues who are experiencing isolation to expand their social networks.
  • Social Bridges Strengthening social connections to support the wellbeing and mental health of socially isolated participants.
  • Housing Support Mental Health Services Supporting people with a mental illness to access and maintain long term stable accommodation.
  • Practical Support Program  Helping mothers with a mental health problem who are facing challenges looking after their infant.
  • Carer Respite Supporting carers of people with a mental illness to take a break.
  • Mental health programs that promote health and wellbeing for young people  Education and support on youth health issues, particularly alcohol and other drug use and mental health. Supporting locally designed activities to provide education to young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on health issues, particularly alcohol and other drug use and mental health.
  • Let’s Talk  Mental health workshops to reduce stigma and encourage young people to seek help and help each other.

Companionship and social support:

Connecting you to your community. Having good social connections is essential for all aspects of your health, especially as you age. Value Care can support you to improve your social connections and connect with your community for your wellbeing. An outing or a chat over a cup of coffee with a caring and friendly volunteer could become a highlight of your week, and give you the confidence to meet new people. Is this program for you? These services are for people who are not in regular social contact with other people. Older people who live alone (including people on home care packages or living in an aged care home) Older people who have few social connections outside home, People with disability or People recovering from a mental illness.

About the service

Value Care social connection programs can support you and link you to other people and your community. Programs include home visits, social outings, group activities, peer support and social phone calls. Many programs will match you with a volunteer based on your interests and values, to be your companion so you can build up a friendship over time. Activities might include: taking part in community interest groups outings to cafes, galleries, the footy or other places of interest going for a walk friendly in-home visits a regular social chat on the phone. This service is available through both the National Disability and Insurance Scheme (NDIS) (except NSW) and My Aged Care. For volunteering enquiries, please visit Volunteering.

Recovering from mental illness

Personal Help and Mentoring provide intensive support for people recovering from mental illness to develop skills and confidence as well as access services and participate in their community. Contact our office for more information.
